Tree Canopy Green Recovery Fund Round 1 application

South Gloucestershire submitted a funding application during the first round of open funding for the Green Recovery Fund in September. Clarifications were required so the funding application has now been recommended for approval.

The Tree Canopy project funds 2,000+ trees on council land including open spaces, verges and streets. Increasing the pace of tree planting across S Glos is in line with our ambitions within the CESAP to address the ecological emergency. It is also in line with the Green Infrastructure Strategy and the West of England Nature Partnership’s Tree and Woodland Strategy. A total of £1,131,046 is requested from the Green Recovery Fund (nature recovery stream). A total of £696,102 has been provided in match funding for a total project cost of £1,827,148.

There is potentially scope to use the project as a pilot for a regional approach. It may be possible to expand use of the mapping software and planning approach to the region, but this is not a core part of the project.

Approval for Green Recovery Fund applications was delegated to the Combined Authority Chief Executive in consultation with the Chief Executives of the constituent Councils.
