Purpose:

Skills Bootcamps are a £2.5bn national initiative forming part of the National Skills Fund. The purpose of which is to deliver predominately high-level training (level 3-5, i.e., A level equivalent and higher).

Skills Bootcamps are employer centric training interventions that allow employers to train participants to fill short-medium term skills gaps. Employers can use Skills Bootcamps funding to fund employee training.

Eligible participants must be 19+ and Skills Bootcamps must run for 60 guided learning hours over a maximum period of 16 weeks. Participants do not have to live in area, but the employer must be situated within the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership geographical region.

 

First Wave 4 Funding Call:

Approval was given to award £4,088,265.32 in the first call of wave 4 Skills Bootcamps by the CEO's Group on 14 June 2023. This has since reduced to £4,016,265.32 following withdrawal of one project. This funding was sourced from the CA's overall Wave 4 funding allocation of £5,115,000. A second call was launched on 6 July 2023 for the remaining allocation of £1,026,734.68 (the available amount has increased to £1,098,734.86 due to provider withdrawing from a cyber security project).

 

Applications and Assessment:

16 applications were received by the deadline. 15 of the 16 projects scored over the 40% minimum threshold and were considered eligible for funding.

Decision:

CEOs approved the recommendation to allocate funding to 15 projects £1,016,595.63 and to re­ distribute the remaining £82,139.05 by extending existing providers where performance meets the KPls of over 80% of starts, as the amount is too low to go out for a 3rd call.
