South Gloucestershire High Streets Catalyst Phase 2

Decision Maker: Chief Executive, West of England Combined Authority

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

A funding application has been produced by South Gloucestershire Council seeking to

draw down £225,000 funding from the High Street Renewal Catalyst programme for their Phase 2 activities.

The proposal builds on Phase 1 activities delivered by the Council, for example: delivery of ‘Welcome Back Fund’ and ‘Help Us Thrive’ grant funding; creation of a business network on every high street with a new e-commerce facility for all traders; and an online trading community for promotions and events.

Phase 2 will build on this work to ensure high streets remain vital and viable attractive destinations. It will join up with other regional Council-led High Streets activity and inform the Strategic Review of High Streets underway.

Funding is to be drawn from the £1.5m High Streets Renewal Catalyst Fund, part of the £9.4m Regional Recovery Fund (Phase 1) agreed by Committee October 2020.  A delegation is in place to the Combined Authority Chief Executive in consultation with the Chief Executives of the constituent Councils to approved business cases drawing on the Regional Recovery Fund.
