Purpose:

The Project will pilot an approach for supporting the Logistics Sector and associated sectors reliant on road freight transportation by focusing on the labour market shortages of skilled HGV drivers operating in the West of England. Working in partnership with local authorities, local employers, employer representative bodies, national government (including the Department for Work and Pensions) and training providers, the Combined Authority is aiming to deliver a structured marketing, engagement, training, employment and business support project, designed and targeted to increase recruitment into the sector, whilst also improving business resilience.

 

Decision:

To approve the West of England HGV Driver Training project and release £220,000 of Investment Fund, as part of the Regional Recovery and Adaptations Fund.
